Steven Ginsburg is President and CEO of BackGrid USA, Inc. Daily operations include curating producing content and delivering it to hundreds of clients and agents globally for licensing.
Steven got his start in the media business as a
teenager. Two weeks after his 18 th birthday, he
hopped in his Audi GT Coupe and drove across
country to Los Angeles from Michigan without a
penny to his name. He quickly put his social skills
to use, networking in and around Hollywood. Not
long after that he was taking his first photos of
celebrities and getting published in all major
magazines, newspapers, and on TV around the
world.
Steven worked as a “freelance photographer” for nearly a decade before
embarking on his own entrepreneurial stint by way of GSI Media. Those ten years
on the street built his impenetrable reputation amongst photographers, agencies,
and publishers. His specialty centered on building teams of photographers who
tackled big-pating stories. Steven and his teams were responsible for some of the
most iconic celebrity photo sets ever taken. In 2008, Steve was at the epicenter
of Charlie Sheen’s infamous meltdown.
GSI Media eventually became a huge success and Steve looked to strengthen his
position in the market by strategically merging with another small, yet nimble
player: AKM Images. AKM-GSI Media was born and dominated the market within
a matter of months, was the agency everyone was talking about. AKM-GSI and its
incredible team of professionals began to reshape the landscape for the future.
AKM-GSI rocketed to the top of agencies globally and began representing more
photographers and material than ever before.
Constant change is unavoidable in the information age, and as such, AKM-GSI
rebranded in 2017 along with an equally successful agency, FameFlynet, Inc. The
two launched BackGrid USA, Inc. in May of that year and have been ruling the
industry since then.
After spending more than 2 decades in Southern California, Steven likes to spend
his free time as far away from the hustle and bustle as possible. He loves to
cruise with his windows down along the Malibu coast and through the various
mountain ranges around LA. He also yearns for a quiet retirement on one of the
Hawaiian Islands.
